In late June, MFA Design alumnus Seo Joon Lee was awarded a patent for his multidirectional zip tie.
‘Truss-Ties,’ as they’re called, are intended to “quickly and affordably build emergency shelters from debris.” Lee created the Truss-Tie with survivors of natural disasters in mind, hoping to create an evolutionary shelter system that aids survivors on their road to recovery.

"I got the patent from my MFA gradation work at UT [in] 2016, and my UT faculties supported me a lot," says Lee.
After graduating from the Design program in 2016, Lee stayed in Austin and currently works for DesignEdge, an industrial product design firm.
