Chair, Department of Design
The College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin invites nominations and applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Design. The College seeks a bold, visionary, and collaborative leader committed to innovative and socially engaged new work. The chosen candidate will be brought in at the rank of full, tenured professor. The appointment will be effective for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The Department of Design is one of two degree-granting programs in the School of Design and Creative Technologies (SDCT), which was formed in 2017 and is situated in the College of Fine Arts. The Department includes an academic Center for Integrated Design that welcomes students from any discipline on the UT Austin campus to explore the places where design theory and craft might overlap with their chosen major. The Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies is also housed in the School. SDCT provides transformative educational experiences and opportunities that shape ambitious thinkers for a dynamic future.

Students and faculty, working together, explore new ways to engage with the most exciting and urgent issues of our time and experience firsthand the power of design to affect positive change.
The Department offers M.F.A., B.F.A., and B.A. degrees in Design and an M.A. in Design focused on Health that is a collaboration with the Dell Medical School. The Center for Integrated Design enrolls around 200 students per semester, who each have the opportunity to work alongside expert design faculty to explore design as a powerful and effective methodology for solving real-world challenges.
The anticipated base salary range for this role is $180,000 – 210,000. Total compensation will be negotiable and commensurate with experience.
